Purchase to replace another failed mandolin.
Seems to be fantastic and easy to clean.
Much more adjustability than my previous mandolin.
Very sturdy, and saves much time cutting my vegetables. Would highly recommend.
I gave the product 5 stars because the product itself is wonderful. I purchased this mandolin to thinly slice potatoes for frying; kind of like potato chips. Works perfect. You can easily adjust the thickness for slicing just about anything.
As other reviews have stated, be careful. The blade is VERY sharp which is why you buy gadgets like this. This comes with a "handle" to use while slicing. USE IT. I didn't and sliced the heck out of my thumb but that is my fault. Just be careful.
I love the way this mandoline slices. I thought that is was hard to slice a wedge of cabbage, but after a few passes, it got much easier to slice. Not until I was eating the coleslaw and something sharp stuck in my tooth, did I realize that the mandoline actually sliced off part of the piece that holds the food.
I didn't realize this was what had happened at first, but could not figure out how a one inch sliver of black plastic ended up in the slaw. I know there must have been two or three other pieces in the slaw (but they must be in someone's digestive system - just a bit worrisome as the piece in my mouth was hard and sharp).
I'll be more watchful in the future when using this. Aside from that, it's great and the protective gloves work well as I'm certain that I would have had at least three slices of fingers or knuckles if I wasn't wearing the gloves when handling the mandoline.
This a very good slicer and an extremely sharp blade but it comes with a protective glove and a pusher type cup. I really use it a lot to make all kinds of sliced products especially homemade potato chips!
I tried it with some assorted vegetabes, including some rocotos (fleshy chiles, similar to a bell peper), and it did create some very nice waffer thin slices. The spiky handle that comes with the mandoline is impractical and hard to control. Using it bare handed provides the best results, but you have to stop before finishing the piece to avoid injuries.
People, you can spend a little less. On one of these Mandoline Slicers.. But This One Is The S.... eer Stuff! I did have one that coast less. It looked and felt like junk. This one is made to leave with your loved ones' when you're gone. Compact slick fast and easy.. Especially making French Fries... I did and I was Greatly Impressed. Just Dial What You Want. And this thing will do the rest..With a little help from you; Very little.
It sliced pears and onions very well. The dial is nice. But when cleaning it if you follow the instructions it causes the blade cylinder to fly into the air. The blade cylinder is covered with little knives so this is very dangerous. Then when the blade cylinder hit the ground it broke into 7 pieces. The tiny piece of plastic that held it together broke so now the whole unit is broken. Also the included cut proof gloves are only lightly cut proof.
I had a plastic one that I used for a few years. I didn’t use it that often, but it was enough that the plastic cracked. I took that as a sign I needed to get a new one. I found this one almost half off during Prime Days. It was a good find at a great price.
I just purchased this product and it does work nice does the job it's supposed to do but I'm just learning to get use to this device and wear the protective gloves that comes with it would recommend
